Redundancy: Business Opportunity or Personal Disaster?

Last week I became unemployed for the first time ever! The question is, should I see this as a business opportunity or a personal disaster.

I’m 58 and while it was not a big surprise, it still takes a bit of getting used to. The question is what do I do next. Getting back into the workforce at my age is not going to be easy. And anyway, I’m not sure if that’s what I want.

It’s is a scary prospect. Scary and exciting at the same time.

It’s especially nice right now having some time on my hands. I have had more time to spend with my family and also catch up on things that I have had on my to-do list for a while now.

That said the bills will keep coming and will need to be paid so I need to figure out how I will generate an income going forward.

So what’s the solution?

Well, I have decided to take the opportunity to start my own business. It is something that has been in the back of my mind for a long time.

The fact that I was in a ‘job’ for so long made the choice difficult but I guess this is a chance to give it a go and to test whether I am up to it or not!

So the journey begins….

My plan is to develop an aviation consultancy business which I hope will allow me to take advantage of the experience I have gained in my career to date. With the decision now made I need to drill down and identify exactly what my ‘offering’ will be. I will provide and update on the blog as I progress.

The other area I want to focus on is coaching. With more time available I should be able to do this also.

It is extremely important to continuously practice coaching so I will be working hard to identify and take on coaching clients in the coming months.

It is an exciting time. I have a lot to learning to do – marketing, sales, digital marketing, website development, bookkeeping and tax accounting. So much to take in and execute on.

As I said earlier both scary and exciting!

So where does that leave me in respect to my original question. Do I see my redundancy as a business opportunity or a personal disaster?

At the end of the day it comes down to how I consciously view it. I have a choice and I am consciously choosing to see the business opportunity rather than a disaster.

Choice is one of the subjects I will talk about in the e-book I am working on. If you would like to receive a copy of it when it is complete or if you would like a free coaching consultation just drop me a note with your details my Contact page.

I promise not to share your details with anyone.

To your success in life,

Coaching is extremely helpful in developing potential and achieving results in life, career and business. I have always had an interest in personal development so for me becoming a Life Coach was a natural extension of that interest. I love helping others explore their true potential and achieving their goals in life. Coaching is the platform from which I feel I can do that most effectively.
